Avermedia U3 CV710 External Capture Card

The Avermedia U3 capture card is an external 1080p 60fps capture card.  It is worth noting that to allow the USB3 Capture card to work at its full potential, you ideally require an intel i7 processor with Intel USB 3.0 drivers.

AMD Machines can get this to work with a lot of trouble, but really does depend on your motherboard, and is worth checking.

The beauty of an external capture card is it will not require any fiddling around inside your computer.  If you have a spare USB 3.0 port, just pop this bad boy in, install the Avermedia Drivers and away you go.

Like with most Avermedia products, you will be provided with the RecCentral Software, which will allow easy and fast recording of your console or PC.

With the USB 3.0 interface, the delay time (latency) is next to 0 and in most cases many people do play on the capture window on their PC - rather than buying a HDMI splitter.

Recording / Streaming your gameplay from your XBOX ONE, PS4, XBOX 360, PS3 is a breeze with the in built software, or 3rd party tools such as xSplit or OBS.

I want to play this on my existing monitor?

This is where this particular capture card lets itself down.  With no HDMI passthrough, you will most likely need a HDMI splitter.  They are fairly inexpensive, however it would be required if you wanted to capture your gameplay whilst playing with 0 latency on your TV / Monitor.

Component Cables (PS3 Capturing)

Component Cable Adaptor for the Avermedia U3

Once thing I really liked about the Avermedia U3 Capture Card was the ability to use a component adaptor on the back.  If you are interested in capturing Playstation 3 gameplay and don't want the hassle of needing to disable the HDMI copy protection (HDCP), then the use of the component cable adaptor (included) is perfect!

Conclusion

Having owned an Avermedia U3, the best possible setup is to use a HDMI splitter, it's much less effort.

The capture card is small, reliable, and once setup works flawlessly with OBS Standard, OBS Studio and xSplit.

The only "downside" of the Avermedia U3, is the initial installation.  If you use an Intel based machine you are golden!  If you use AMD, then you are going to have a bad time trying to get the full 1080p 60fps.

It is important to install the latest drivers and firmware for the capture card to work in later systems.
